Mare & Foal Amenities Building

REALMstudios for the Royal Botanic Gardens Trust

Status: Design Complete, Documentation to Detailed DA level to enable costing for grant funding

Project Details

REALMstudios worked with Hayball to prepare an integrated landscape and architectural concept for the Mare & Foal building located in Wuganmagulya (Farm Cove).

The design seeks to integrate the built form within the landscape, reinforcing the topography of the site, while creating two distinct spaces, both amenities building and rooftop garden viewing platform.

The main element is a cantilevered platform that springs off the native rock face, reinforcing its prominence. The space below responds to the materiality of the site, the endemic sandstone shelters and its historical context.

The hardscape palette includes in-situ concrete and ground oyster shells, referencing the Indigenous heritage of the site, as a meeting place and former location of many shell middens along the foreshore.
