Wiley Park Playground

GroupGSA for the City of Canterbury Bankstown

Typology: Community
Status: Design Complete, Documentation to Tender Level
Location: Wiley Park, Sydney

Project Details

In 2020-2022, Council engaged GroupGSA to explore a design for a playtower with a range of supporting play experiences to meet Councils aspirations for a new playground in Wiley Park. The design delivers an accessible connection to the tower top to access and use the play slide.

Inspiration: The project seeks to provide a thrilling experience at the tower top. The tower concept responds to the site’s topography and extends a ramp and platform seemingly into the canopies of the existing mature Eucalyptus trees on site to create a tree-top experience. The project is inspired by an ecological transect identifying the site and its catchment positioning, representing different vegetative communities at key locations in the play space through materials section and planting design.

The hardscape palette reflects the park-wide materiality and brings in brick elements that relate to the existing brick amenities building.

GroupGSA was engaged to develop the concept, present to Council, prepare material for community consultation and develop the landscape documentation pack.
